Poor David's: Day 25

Poor David's Pub, March 22, 2025

They didn't check my ID
But I suppose this is the bar
For the Dallasites with dentures

The marquee sign outside
Missed letters but spelled
"Wilkins and Berardo"

This was a good night for my mom:
It called for eyeliner and red wine
Dumping cash into beggar's cups
Seeing old friends play old songs

Walt Wilkins looked like Jesus
Long hair and practically a halo of love
Marc Berardo came out chuckling
Shining with laughter and health

The wine was awful, we discovered
Defecting to cranberry juice and lime

Classic tunings played storied songs
The kind that make me brave
Itching to age into some sort of grace
Where I'll have smile lines and sageness
About memories and marriage

Wives with those sleek, silver pixies
Husbands with beards grown like weeds
This was a crowd of flip-phones and
The wisdom of Block Island fishers

Here, there are no QR codes
Just old folks humming along
To poetry about beer and dogs

Prompt: "In her poem, senzo, Evie Shockley recounts the experience of being at a live concert, relating it the act of writing poetry. Today we’d like to challenge you to write a poem that recounts an experience of your own in hearing live music, and tells how it moves you. It could be a Rolling Stones concert, your little sister’s middle school musical, or just someone whistling – it just needs to be something meaningful to you."

  2. Congrats Eden and well deserved! Loved this, and especially loved these lines 'Itching to age into some sort of grace
Where I'll have smile lines and sageness
    About memories and marriage'...
