Cogito Ergo Sum: Day 10

I guess my alarm clock has been reading Descartes
Because when I woke up last night
It said "I AM"

I said, "Well, I am too"
To be more specific
I am booming blooming big business

I've never been able to distinguish
Apprise and appraise
But I always pick apprise
Because raising is poker it’s a gamble
Rising is a sure thing

Rising is sure like my favorite phenomenon
How stress creates light
It’s a word I can’t spell:
Triboluminescence

If I weren't already sure
This phenomenon describes me
It's in the suffix
mine escence

If you hit a lifesaver with a hammer
It’ll spark
I’m pretty sure my head’s the same way
In an anticyclone
my twinkling thinker
will flicker and flare

Let me finish Descartes’ half-baked thought
I think, therefore I am on fire

Prompt: "Yesterday, we looked at a poem that used sound in a very particular way, to create a slow and mysterious feeling. Mark Bibbins’ poem, “At the End of the Endless Decade,” uses sound very differently, with less eerieness and more wordplay. Today, we’d like to challenge you to write a poem that, like Bibbins’, uses alliteration and punning. See if you can’t work in references to at least one word you have trouble spelling, and one that you’ve never quite been able to perfectly remember the meaning of."
